DUSTIN L SORRELL
actor - singer - dancer
DUSTIN L SORRELL began his professional acting career in 1997. At only 12 years old he had been hired to perform the role of the second magic spirit in a tour of Mozart's The Magic Flute (Sorg Opera & Whitewater Opera). Since that time, Dustin has gone on to perform in Opera, Musical Theatre, and Non-Musical Theatre across the country. Off-Broadway, Dustin was seen for a short time as Joey Vitale in the long-running hit, Tony n' Tina's Wedding, as well as Alex in the well received, original musical spoof, Alex in Wonderland.
Dustin has been seen on stages across the country. He has performed in Opera's such as The Marriage of Figaro, l'Elisire d'amore, and The Mighty Casey, classic musicals including The Pirates of Penzance, West Side Story, The King & I, and Joseph & the...Dreamcoat, more contemporary musicals such as Grease, High School Musical, A New Brain, and several productions of The Rocky Horror Show. Dustin's performances have not been limited to musical productions; some of the roles that he is most proud of were in non-musical shows such as Picasso at the Lapin Agile, The Laramie Project, and Summer and Smoke. Dustin's performance in the independent film, Film 101, was called "hilariously brilliant".
More recently, Dustin has also discovered a love for Directing and Choreography. He has directed such shows as Moon Over Buffalo, Sideways Stories from Wayside School, and Captain Hook's Revenge. Choreographer credits include Kiss of the Spiderwoman, The Wedding Singer, Kiss Me Kate (in which he also portrayed the character of Bill Calhoun), and Oklahoma! (for which he won an Indiana regional theatre award for best choreography in 2009). Additionally, Dustin has served as both Director and Choreographer on a few shows including, Lil' Abner, Honk!, Seussical, and Twelve Dancing Princesses.
Dustin is committed to bringing the joy of live theatrical entertainment to young people. He is extremely passionate about Children's Theatre and performance opportunities for youth. He spent 4 years working closely with Stage One Youth Theatre; serving on the board as Director of Programing. He also served as an instructor, Director and Choreographer in those years. He has also worked as an instructor at Dance Techniques Performing Arts Studio, National Trail Middle School, and The Actor's Garage.
